Integrative Healthcare at Mission Hospital
Many complementary therapies offer proven health benefits. That's why Mission offers a department of Integrative Medicine to our patients and the staff members caring for them. We bring together the best practices of complementary and Western medicine to maximize the body's innate potential for self-healing for the whole person: Body, mind and spirit.
We see firsthand how therapies such as healing touch can help patients recover faster and feel better when experiencing potentially stressful procedures such as labor and childbirth, or while undergoing intensive chemotherapy.
The term "integrative" simply means bringing together modern medicine and complementary healing and health practices, so the patient benefits from both.
When you request complementary care services at Mission, you know that:
-
Only therapies with clinically proven benefits are offered
-
All complementary therapies are provided by staff members who have clinical credentials such as being a registered nurse in addition to extensive training in the complementary therapy they provide.
Our goals are to:
-
Draw together science and compassion to create healing and support for patients
-
Reaffirm the importance of human caring in healing and enhancing wellness
-
Create a partnership in which the patient and practitioner address healing on the physical, emotional, and spiritual levels
-
Bring healing in a way that is family-centered and sensitive to each patient's culture and background
-
Provide only practices that are "evidence based," meaning that they have been tested and proven both safe and helpful in maximizing the body's potential for healing. We bring together the knowledge developed by research, education, clinical services, and community partnerships.
-
Collaborate with community resources and practitioners to develop an integrated healing network among Mission, medical doctors, and complementary practitioners in our region who share our meticulous care standards and our goals.
