What do you find most rewarding about your area of practice? I find that every workday offers a new set of challenges and patient problems in patients ranging in age from 18 to more than 100.

Why did you decide to specialize in your specialty? There are numerous reasons for my decision, but it boils down to enjoying the broad exposure of problems addressed in my field (cancer, infectious disease, kidney failure, COPD, hypertension, diabetes, etc). Hospitalist medicine also allows for a decent work/time-off schedule.

What do you like most about practicing at Mission Health System? I like the size of the hospital (not too small, not too large), the readily available subspecialists and the fact that it is a teaching hospital.

Personal Interests: Dr. Saarloos enjoys swimming, rollerblading (although she has not done too much in-line skating in the mountains), camping and hanging out with her kids.
