Choosing the hospital and doctors to care for your heart may be the most important health decision of your life. Fortunately for residents and visitors to Western North Carolina, you have ready access to a heart program that has achieved national recognition for the excellence of our cardiology and surgical heart services.
At Mission Hospital, we provide advanced heart diagnosis, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation, all with the hospitality that makes our mountains famous. We successfully treat thousands of patients a year, so we maintain the volumes that relate directly to good patient outcomes. But even more than the awards we've received, we appreciate the countless letters, calls, and accolades from the people we treat.
Our care often begins with a 911 call. We offer fast air and ground transport and an Emergency Department staffed and set up 24/7 to respond immediately to heart attacks. We provide expert diagnosis, non-invasive or minimally invasive intervention and treatment, and cardiovascular open heart surgery when called for. The care continues through recovery, and often, cardiac rehabilitation. At each step, it is guided by a choreographed patient care plan (clinical paths) to ensure that care is provided at the moment of need. It's a powerful tool designed to prevent medical errors and to make sure you get what you need when you need it.
The cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons who are members of Mission's medical staff are highly trained and comparable to those you would find at major teaching hospitals. Many of them moved to Asheville for the same reason our visitors and newcomers do - to enjoy the quality of life in this unique mountain city.
The Physicians work closely with Mission heart staff members who are dedicated in both senses of the word - dedicated to their subspecialty in heart care - and dedicated to the work they do and the patients they serve.
The polished granite of the 5-story Owen Heart Center welcomes patients and families with its soaring lobby and helpful staff. Upstairs, beauty meets technology in our high tech cardiovascular surgery suites, critical care units, and patient rooms with healing mountain views.
At Mission Heart Services, families are recognized as an important part of the care team. You'll be kept informed, educated along with the patient, and honored for the role you play during hospitalization and afterwards.
The most important member of the heart team, however, is you - man OR woman. Heart health starts with you:
Break the tobacco addiction.
Live a healthy lifestyle: Exercise. Eat right. Manage stress and anger.
Follow your physician's recommendations.
