Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it called PET/CT?

The technology is referred to as PET/CT because it combines two different types of scanning—positron emission technology (PET) and computerized tomography (CT)—into one machine. Simultaneous PET and CT scanning determines both the anatomy of a tumor (its size, shape and exact location) and the tumor’s biological activity (how quickly it’s growing, and if and where it may be spreading).
