About Mission Children's Hospital
A healthy child who never needs specialty medical care is every parent's hope - and ours too. But when illness, injury or other health challenges affect children, parents in Western North Carolina have a trusted local resource in Mission Children's Hospital.
Our philosophy is that young patients have unique medical needs. The best way to care for them is in child-friendly settings dedicated to children and families. Our pediatric health professionals and physicians are committed to personal and clinically excellent care for your child in an environment that supports the comfort of your entire family. Because we work exclusively with children, whose medical needs often differ from adults, every aspect of your child's care at Mission is attended by staff that are specialized or certified in pediatric care.
We work closely with your pediatrician or family doctor to meet your child's medical needs. Once treatment at Mission is complete, our goal is to return young patients to the regularity of their referring physician's care as soon as possible, and to follow up with support such as answering questions and providing recommendations on further care and testing. Your family's input and comfort is very important in all aspects of your child's experience at Mission Children's Hospital. We believe the family - who always knows the child best - is an integral component of our care team and we support families participating in their child's care.
Our goal is to provide your child the highest quality care at every stage of treatment right here in Western North Carolina, while allowing your family the convenience and ease of remaining close to home. Our staff includes an array of pediatric subspecialists with expertise in specific childhood diseases, disorders and conditions. We serve newborns, infants, children and adolescents, and the families who love them. Mission provides the only Children's Hospital in Western North Carolina. The pediatric health professionals and physicians who practice there are subspecialists in the childhood diseases, disorders and conditions they treat. They are committed to providing clinically excellent, personalized, family-centered care.
Services for Mission Children's Hospital are offered in three settings - Mission Hospital Campus, Reuter Outpatient Center and Asheville Surgery Center. Whenever possible children are cared for in an outpatient setting; it is our goal to
return them quickly to the comfort of their family community once they've received the medical care they need. Some surgeries and procedures are done at the Asheville Surgery Center. Designed specifically to accommodate outpatient surgical procedures, meaning no hospital stay is required, Our child-friendly Preview Tours help ease the possible apprehension of young patients by providing them a chance to see the operating rooms, meet some of the staff, and even watch a special puppet having surgery.
We are dedicated to helping the children of Western North Carolina grow up healthy, and to allow them access to high quality care close to home. Through our many medical specialties and services, we aim not only to provide quality care to our patients, but to promote health and wellness for all children across the region.
Mission Children's Hospital has an average of 1600 patient admissions to our pediatric inpatient units, some 4,000 outpatient pediatric surgeries, and almost 14,000 pediatric visits to our Emergency Department. Each year approximately 550 ill and premature newborns receive life-saving care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Mission Children's Hospital provides care to all children, regardless of their family's ability to pay. Medicaid, Carolina Access and Health Choice are accepted.
