At Mission Hospital, we strive every day to deliver quality care and services to you and your family. And, thanks to today's breakthroughs in advanced medical technologies, we are able to provide even more effective, faster and less-invasive treatments than were available just a few years ago. These advanced medical technologies provide you with more options than ever. Read about how these technologies and our dedicated staff, who work daily with these advanced medical technologies, can help you to achieve:
- quicker recovery times,
- shorter hospital stays,
- earlier and more precise diagnosis, and
- pinpoint accuracy in treatment.
da Vinci® Computer-Assisted Robotic Surgery
The da Vinci® surgical system is changing the surgery experience. Members of our highly-trained medical team provide you and your family with a coordinated continuum of care alongside some of the most advanced technology available today in minimally-invasive and effective surgery. This cutting-edge technology is aided by a high resolution, full-color, 3-D image of the internal body structures. The precision of this technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures through just one to two-centimeter incisions while minimizing the risk of damage to surrounding organs, tissue and nerves. So, when you combine professional health care staff with this new technology, you will find that you'll be back on your feet in no time.
This medical technology is used to help our medical staff in their diagnosis and staging of lung, esophageal, gastric, colorectal and pancreatic/biliary tumors. It combines endoscopy and ultrasound to obtain images and information about the digestive tract and the surrounding tissue and organs. It's also being used in some of the following situations:
- Chronic pancreatitis evaluation.
- Bile duct abnormalities' studies.
- Lower rectum and anal canal muscle studies to evaluate fecal incontinence.
- Studies on nodules or bumps that may be hiding in the intestinal wall and covered by normal appearing lining of the intestinal tract.
This advanced technology aids in your treatment and allows physicians to better examine and view the GI tract with unobstructed views of adjacent organs and structures. Endoscopic Ultrasound can provide information regarding the depth of the cancer's penetration as well as the spread of cancer to adjacent tissues and lymph nodes providing you with an earlier diagnosis and treatment plan.
PET/CT Diagnostic Scan
When used alone, PET (positron emission technology) and CT (computer tomography) have some limitations, but when we combine simultaneous CT and PET scans, physicians can pinpoint, in even greater detail, exactly where in the body abnormal cell activity is taking place. This powerful new diagnostic tool combines the anatomical imaging of CT graphy with the biochemical imaging of PET and allows us to provide you with an even more accurate diagnosis, monitoring plan, and precise treatment. In merging these two technologies, we can save you time and improve accuracy. PET/CT makes it easier for care providers to diagnose problems, determine the extent of disease, prescribe treatment, and track progress - specifically for cancer, heart disease and brain disorders.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
In the past, RFA has been used to treat pain through nerve destruction. Now, it is also being used for cancer and works to destroy malignant tumors of the liver, lung, kidney and bone on an outpatient basis. Cancer has traditionally been approached either systemically with chemotherapy or locally with surgery or radiotherapy, but recent advancements in minimally- invasive therapies such as RFA are adding another weapon to the anticancer arsenal. Thermal ablation involves heating tumors so hot that the tumor cells die. RFA provides safe and effective local treatment of some cancers, with very small complication rates and survival curves similar to surgery. This medical technology allows our physicians to treat tumors that would, otherwise, be very difficult to operate on and remove surgically. What this means to you is a quicker recovery time when compared to more invasive surgery and less time spent in the hospital since it can be done on an outpatient basis.
Telehealth Services
Telehealth is a new way of delivering healthcare that allows us to provide patients in rural and underserved areas with quality care and easy access to healthcare services. Through this advanced technology, patients in more remote areas can now enjoy the same quality health care and benefits of patients in more accessible regions
