Hospitalist Services

When your child is sick, Mission Children's Hospital provides comprehensive care with a team specifically focused on the unique medical needs of pediatric patients. Our Hospitalist team provides services coordinated between clinicians, physicians, nurses and subspecialists, all who focus primarily on children's medicine.

Coordinated Services and Treatment
Mission Children's Hospital offers a range of services from general pediatric care and physical therapy to critical care. Mission's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit also offers a host of specific family-centered services, including an ICU waiting room where parents can stay.

During daily Family Centered Rounds, the hospitalist team dedicated to your child's care will discuss condition, treatment options and ways for the family to help with overall management of the child's health. Parents can visit around the clock and are encouraged to sleep in the room with their child where fold-out sleepers are available. Throughout the stay, we coordinate your child's care to help provide a seamless transition from home to clinical care and back to your primary care provider.

The pediatric hospitalist program provides inpatient medical management at the request of referring physicians. Talk to your primary care provider if your child requires hospitalization.

Your Care Team
A pediatric hospitalist is a physician specially trained to care for pediatric patients during hospital stays. Unlike your family physician, these doctors focus their entire practice within the hospital in order to more closely monitor your child's medical condition and to help ensure that care is well-coordinated between subspecialists. The resulting coordination helps to create a smooth transition between specialists, and back to your primary physician's care following treatment.

The Hospitalist team includes pediatric intensivists, pediatric hospitalists (physicians who are specialists in the hospital care of critically ill and injured children), MAHEC Family Practice residents, and other providers including pharmacists, nutritionists and respiratory therapists. Our board-certified staff members routinely update their training in Pediatric care.

Hospitalist services at Mission Children's Hospital are part of an academic program developed in association with MAHEC Family Practice. Our Hospitalist team includes the only board-certified Pediatric Intensivists in Western North Carolina.
