Shoulder, arm, and elbow

Living with shoulder, arm, or elbow pain can be life altering. Pain can result in no longer being able to enjoy your favorite activities, difficulty performing activities of self-care such as combing your hair, or even struggling to get a good night's sleep. If this sounds familiar, or if you have suffered a sudden injury, it might be time to visit a physician. Mission Hospital's Orthopedic Program includes experienced orthopedic surgeons who perform hundreds of shoulder, arm and elbow surgeries each year, and a team who will provide excellent care from preparation through recovery. Benefits of surgery include:

  • Increased motion
  • Reduced pain
  • Improved quality of life

The Mission Hospital Orthopedic Program includes several options for shoulder, arm and elbow surgeries depending upon your particular injury and needs.

For a personal example of the need for and results of having a shoulder surgery you may read a short story about A Patient's Experience with Osteoarthritis of the Shoulder.

What to expect when you have surgery

After discussions with your surgeon and anesthesiologist, you will undergo the procedure that best fits your situation. Depending on your procedure and individual state of health, you will stay in the hospital for one to three days. Your physical therapy will depend upon the procedure you have and your surgeon's determination of needs for your best outcome.
