The Sports Medicine Program at Mission Hospital specializes in treatment of all ages, levels and sports, providing care that includes prevention, education, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for residents of Asheville and Western North Carolina.

Whether you're a Weekend Warrior spending your days hiking, jogging or playing pick-up basketball, or a school Sports Star, injuries can easily sideline your activities. Even minor injuries can have a long term impact if not cared for properly.

    The Sports Medicine Physician Network cares for many different types of sports-related injuries, whether you're a professional, school, or recreational athlete.

    Sports Stars - We offer services for scholastic athletes who need to be on par for the next game or match and may have injuries from sports such as football, basketball, track, soccer, wrestling, tennis or golf. Mission's Sports Medicine Clinic provides services, including: 
    Weekend Warriors - Whether you get out once a day, week or year, the Weekend Warriors are those athletes that participate in recreational sports such as mountain biking, golf, hiking, basketball, baseball or softball, running or walking, road cycling, tennis, whitewater sports, Karate or dancing. Mission's Sport Medicine Clinic provides care for these athletes, including: 
    Professional Athletes - We also care for a number of professional athletes, including those professionals who cycle, run, golf, play tennis, kayak, participate in whitewater sports and/or dance. Mission's services for these professionals include:

    Conditions Treated
    Our team of sports medicine professionals treats a variety of sports-related conditions, including:

  • Fractures, Dislocations, Sprains and more
  • Stress Fractures
  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injuries
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Overuse Injuries/Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Shin Splints and Other Running Injuries

  • We can also provide immediate care for some urgent sports related injuries*:

    • Sprains and strains
    • Fractures and possible fractures
    • Minor dislocations
    • Sports - related injuries
    • Cast or wound dressing problems

    *Conditions including lacerations, head trauma, open fractures, backs, automobile accidents, chronic or longstanding conditions should not be treated at the Sports Medicine Department's urgent clinic. For these types of injuries, please go to the Emergency Room.

    Our care team includes an integrated team of professionals who specialize in sports medicine. We have a dedicated team of board certified, fellowship-trained Sports Medicine doctors, licensed physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, nutritionists, strength and conditioning specialists.
